Well, he's smiling, so that means the suitcase is packed with either liquor or money, or possibly a combination of both. Emile is not a particularly happy or healthy person, and he's usually at his most tolerable when he's under the influence of alcohol or has somehow managed to rob/cheat/lie/steal his way towards a small fortune. He used to be at the very top of his profession and (heaven forbid) passably charming, but has since devolved into a self-pitying, emotionally damaged narcissist with a severe napoleonic complex. He enjoys planning out his crimes in detail and enjoys a short-lived high with each successful hiest. In-between jobs he tends to get depressed and spends a lot of his spare time smoking like a chimney with a burning lust for lung cancer and convincing himself that he's a failure. To keep him from wallowing in his misery /too/ much, Paolo constantly gets into trouble and makes a mess of the apartment. It's tough to be properly angsty when you're forever trying to get oil paint and marinara sauce out of the upholstery. What are friends for? : D
